Flood victims thrown data recovery lifebelt
~ Kroll Ontrack offers 20% discount for washed-up PCs ~
UK businesses and homeowners are being offered a rescue package for PCs damaged by the floods last week.
Kroll Ontrack, the data recovery expert, is offering a 20% reduction on its services until the end of January. The company specialises in retrieving electronic files and documents that have been lost or damaged on computers and laptops ruined by the floods. It has two options: the company’s ‘in-lab’ facilities for severe cases of data loss where the hard drive is physically damaged, and ‘Remote Data Recovery’, where an engineer accesses the damaged computer remotely to retrieve lost data from structurally damaged hard drives.
Large and small companies with flooded IT equipment risk losing financial and business-critical information that may be costly and take time to replace manually. Kroll Ontrack’s range of recovery services is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
"No-one can predict a natural disaster, like the floods we’ve seen across Britain last week," said Todd Johnson, general manager at Kroll Ontrack. "However, in the majority of cases, what nature does, we can undo. Individuals and businesses rely on computers to store invaluable information and financial details. If lost, this can have a dramatic impact on productivity. Often it would cost too much, or would actually be impossible to re-create files manually. However, flood victims with water-logged computers should not panic at the apparent damage nor attempt to dry it out themselves, but send the equipment to a data recovery specialist as soon as possible for the data to be retrieved."
The company has also put together a short checklist highlighting precautions to take in case of data loss:
